ULLADULLA Solar has been operating now for two years, and Steve Burgess and Ali- son Wall have been in the industry for 10 years.

Steve and Alison set up the Ulladulla Solar showroom at 11 Wason St Ulladulla to show clients a fully func- tional solar system complete with battery back-up. This way clients can actually see what they are buying instead of relying on descriptions relayed over the phone or via the internet.

According to Steve and Alison, one of the most com- mon questions from custom- ers is why there is a big dif- ference in prices for solar, for example a 6.6kW system can be priced at $4,000 to $6,500.

“There is a lot that goes into a solar installation, not just quality panels and inverters, quality of rail,

isolator switches, DC cable, protective covers, the list goes on. The whole balance of system, more importantly the quality of the installation team comes into account when pricing a system.”

“There is an old saying, ‘The bitterness of poor qual- ity remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.'”

Other factors that need to be considered when looking at solar systems are the suita- bility of the roof area includ- ing shading issues.

“Shading is the number cause of system low perfor- mance,” said Steve. “With a typical string system, you only need shading on one or two panels to effect to per- formance of them all. I often get called out to a property to asses a system only to find the panels are in shade most

of the day and no one from the company who sold the system has informed them of the issue.”

Ulladulla Solar is a locally based solar power provider and can install rooftop solar and batteries for homes and businesses as well as solu- tions for those off the grid. Steve is focused on ensuring that the systems he supplies are around for the long haul.

If there is one piece of advice Steve could give to prospective customers it is to take your time and research your solar needs.

“Consider your future needs, such battery back-up, electric car charging or add- ing a spa.

“The Clean Energy Council also has a great web site with good information. Solar is a long-term investment, so in- vest in quality not just price.”
