Around for the long haul
ULLADULLA Solar has been operating for two years, and owner Steve Burgess has been in the industry for over 10 years.
Steve set up the Ulladulla Solar showroom at 11 Wason Street in Ulladulla to show clients a fully functional solar system complete with battery back-up.
This way, clients can actually see what they are buying instead of relying on descriptions relayed over the phone or via the internet.
According to Steve, one of the most common questions from customers is why there is a big difference in prices for solar; for example, a 6.6kW system can be priced anywhere from $4500 to $7500.
“There is a lot that goes into a solar installation, not just quality panels and inverters, quality of rail, isolator switches, DC cable, protective covers, the list goes on. The whole balance of system, more importantly, the quality of the installation team,” he said.
“There is an old saying, ‘the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten’.”
Other factors that need to be considered when looking at solar systems are the suitability of the roof area, including shading issues.
“Shading is the number cause of low system performance,” Steve said. “With a typical string system, you only need shading on one or two panels to affect the performance of them all. I often get called out to a property to assess a system only to find the panels are in the shade most of the day, and no one from the company who sold the system has informed them of the issue.”
Ulladulla Solar is a locally based solar power provider and can install rooftop solar and batteries for homes and businesses and solutions for those off the grid.
Steve is focused on ensuring that the systems he supplies are around for the long haul.
If there is one piece of advice Steve could give to prospective customers, it is to take your time and research your solar needs.
“Consider your future needs, such as battery back-up, electric car charging or adding a spa,” he said.
Ulladulla Solar has installation teams based in Nowra, Batemans Bay, Moruya, Sydney and Canberra.
“The Clean Energy Council also has a great website with good information. Solar is a long-term investment, so invest in quality, not just price.”
